The workhorse of the Eagle ecosystem is now available with AXS! New for 2021, The GX AXS upgrade kit is a more affordable entry point into the simplicity of a wireless drivetrain setup. The upgrade kit allows you to experience AXS without the need to buy an entire groupset as it's compatible with the complete range of SRAM Eagle cassettes and crank arms.

GX Eagle AXS brings with it the features you expect from the Eagle ecosystem like 520% range, mix and match compatibility and the ability to customise your cockpit with SRAM's AXS app.

What is AXS?

AXS (pronounced as "access") is SRAM’s new bike component integration system that connects electronic bike components and software into a zippy zappy package that eliminates the need to fiddle with cables and housing. AXS enables you to ditch the clutter of traditional cables and experience crisp, precise shifting with a satisfyingly light feel at the controls (with cool robot noises). The SRAM AXS mobile app allows you to see the battery status, change component behaviour, personalise the controls, receive maintenance reminders, and update the firmware.

What are the main benefits of GX Eagle AXS?

  • Wireless electronic shifting with engineered hardware for a new ergonomic experience based on touching a button rather than pushing a lever.
  • Faster, more consistent shifts. Letting you shift when you want, under load, without ever having to plan around terrain.
  • Gathering useful data, telling you how many shifts have been made, how frequently each cog is being used, helping you make smarter choices on chainring size, and more.

What's in the kit?

  • GX Eagle AXS Derailleur
  • GX Eagle AXS Controller
  • SRAM Battery
  • SRAM Battery Charger
  • AXS Battery Cover
  • Eagle V2 B Gap Tool

GX Eagle AXS Derailleur

The GX Eagle AXS derailleur provides you with everything you would expect from SRAM's AXS connect components. It will smoothly shift on command, even when under load, and it's smart enough to protect itself if it cops a hit thanks to the super handy Overload Clutch. The derailleur is compatible with SRAM's new expanded range 10-52t cassette as well as their 10-50t cassettes to cater to different requirements for weight, terrain and riding style.

The function of the GX AXS derailleur is identical to what you'll find on its more expensive X01 and XX1 siblings but it has a slight weight penalty (~64-grams heavier than X01) due to its use of a steel cage.

Derailleur Specs:

  • Speeds: 12
  • Cage Material: Steel
  • Pulley Bearing Material: Steel
  • Max Tooth: 52
  • Weight with battery: 454g

GX Eagle AXS Controller

The GX Eagle AXS Controller GX Eagle AXS changes your level of control on the bike when you’re under pressure and pushing hard. With no cable, housing or wires to worry about, SRAM was able to explore new design and engineering possibilities to create ergonomic touchpoints that make shifting effortless. The function of the paddles is customisable to your preference so you can choose which button does what through the AXS App.

Controller Specs:

  • Default Function: AXS Rear Derailleur
  • Orientation: Right
  • Control Points: Double
  • Clamp: Discrete (Matchmaker X compatible)
  • Lever Adjust: No
  • Multi-Position: Yes
  • Battery Size CR2032
  • Weight: 68g

SRAM Battery

The SRAM battery is the power source for eTap or AXS components. The same power unit is interchangeable between front and rear eTap AXS derailleurs, Eagle AXS derailleurs, and the RockShox Reverb AXS seatpost.

Battery Features:

  • Charges in 60 minutes or less
  • 20 hrs of ride time per charge (ie. lots! )
  • Lightweight (24g) and easy to transport
  • Same battery design for all AXS components and original SRAM RED eTap

SRAM Battery Charger

SRAM batteries are literally a snap to remove and charge. Just flip the tool-free battery latch up and slide the battery up and out of the derailleur. Then snap the battery into the USB powered charger and connect the charger to any USB power source or A/C USB adaptor. A full charge takes up to 60 minutes to complete.

AXS Battery Cover

The AXS battery cover is a light-weight cowling designed to protect the battery while installed on the derailleur. The AXS Battery Cover fits all AXS mountain bike derailleurs.

Eagle V2 B-Gap Tool

The V2 B-Gap Adjustment Tool is compatible with Eagle 50T/52T AXS and mechanical derailleurs. It's simple and easy to use and will help you to quickly set up your fancy new derailleur. The tool is small enough to easily stash pack in your ride bag or toolbox for repeated use.

This is the most precise tool for setting up and adjusting your Eagle drivetrain and will save you a lot of head-scratching.

GX AXS is the future for the technophiles out there but SRAM couldn't have tried any harder to find the cheapest, most brittle plastic to manufacture the setup tool out of.
Be seriously careful clipping it on the cassette and whatever you do, don't take SRAM's advice and stash it in a bag, unless it's in a protective case.

AXS is the future!!!

For anyone considering axs I can confirm it is well worth the money, best shifting I have ever had and so consistent.

Awesome upgrade. Not cheap but a great upgrade. I was struggling with sluggish downshifts on various combinations of NX and GX shifters and deraileurs, new cables, visits to mechanics etc but nothing sorted it out for long. With the GX AXS I’ve had flawless shifting straight away. Only gripe is I don’t love the ergonomics of the ‘original’ shifter paddle (I have to lift my thumb, what feels like quite high, to hit the top of the paddle - you can use your index finger on the rear of the paddle but I find that a little clumsy too) so I’ll be looking to upgrade to the revised version.

The way of the future

My old drive train was up for replacement on my Trek E-bike, so I thought I’d give the SRAM wireless GX a go.
Wow so ease of installation and setup took no longer than 10min, no cable would have to be the best part and adjustment is so so incredibly easy.
